Bad weather

Stormy and raining buckets during the night. No sun today at all. Drove to another part of the island and toured an old homestead of the Carroll family. Really enjoyed it despite the rain.

Then, on to the lighthouse on Bass Harbor to see a light house and ended up at "Beals" to see lobstering in the ruff.

The end!

Still raining when we got back to the campsite. We decided to pack up and leave Acadia (sadly) and drive to Bangor Maine to a hotel for the night. Tonight they are expecting some hail and storms. Not a good night to go camping.

Update on a new week.

 Cadillac Mountain views

Omega Dog (opposite of alpha dog). Scared of the views on Cadillac Mountain and hid under my chair.

 Sunset on Cadillac Mountain.

Saturday, July 29
We figured out how to use the bus system. The propane buses have no fumes and very “green”. Takes a bit longer, but then you don’t have to worry about parking or getting lost. We can even load bikes on the front of the buses.
We did a 2 mile hike around Thunder Hole with an interpreter ranger guide who told us much of the history and geology of the harbor. Now we know all about granite, feldspar, and volcanoes.

Sunday, July 30th
We rented bikes for a ride to Jordan Pond and Eagle Lake on the carriage trails. It was a very steep hill to begin and I was not comfortable with the bike…(still traumatized from a former biking accident). It seemed to be uphill a good bit of the way, but gorgeous views that ended at a blueberry meadow in front of Jordan Pond House.
Packed a quick lunch and drove into town to get some messages.  So sad to hear that our dear friend from church, Debbie Reardon, was in her last hours at home. We are grieving, but encouraged by her strong witness in her final months.
Drove up to Cadillac mountain for the sunset and participated in a worship service. Beautiful evening.

We ran into town to get some quick groceries and make a few phone calls. We got the sad news that Debbie has passed away last evening. Spent much time today thinking of how beautiful our views were today, but no comparison to what we will see someday in heaven.  So sorry for her family who have been such a blessing to us in so many ways.
Kayaked on Jordan Pond lake today and ran into some white caps. We got a little wet, but faired well. Made a pot of chili for lunch,, then hiked the Great Trailhead overlooking Sand Beach. Such beautiful views,

popovers at Iced Cappuccino for "tea"

Beautiful weather and eventful day of biking from Bar Harbor on the carriage road to Jordan Pond. Stopped for "tea" there, including popovers and Iced Cappuccino. Then a stroll around Jordan Pond including picking fresh Maine blueberries.  Sunset church service at Cadillac Mountain (otherwise, it won't feel like Sunday).
